“THE TRUE PURPOSE OF ARTS EDUCATION IS NOT NECESSARILY TO CREATE MORE PROFESSIONALS DANCERS AND ARTISTS. (IT’S) TO CREATE MORE COMPLETE HUMAN BEINGS WHO ARE CRITICAL THINKERS, WHO HAVE CURIOUS MINDS, WHO CAN LEAD PRODUCTIVE LIVES.”
Kelly Pollock

The Artsmiths staff and board of directors stand in solidarity
with our friends and neighbors in the Black community.
We are deeply saddened to see unjust, senseless

and brutal deaths of Black Americans. While it is impossible to

encapsulate everything we are feeling, we hope everyone takes time

to reflect, learn, listen and act.
We know that if work together, we can do better as a nation.
As artists we are a part of a very diverse and deeply creative community. Throughout history, artists have challenged societies by speaking through art.
It is our sincere hope that each one of you will work to find
a new and creative way to heal this divide, one step at a time.
Artsmiths will continue to serve the black community through
children engaged in Art4Allpgh. However, we will seek to do more.
We are committed to expanding our artist base in the black community
through targeted outreach and we will embark on a mission
to diversify our board in the coming years.
