INSTRUCTOR BIO: Kathryn Carr has a BFA in Art Education from Edinboro University. She is a Professional Teaching Artist with the Lifetime Arts, A Board Member of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh, a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council.
She has been inspired by German paper cut art, Scherenschnitte (pronounced: sharon-SNIT-tah), and how it portrays everyday life in silhouette form. Her designs begin by sketching an idea and giving it a sense of movement and playfulness. She will then draw the image on the back of the paper that is to be cut. Using a scissor or knife blade she carefully cuts away the paper to reveal the image.
